Mary White Tribute Raises Funds for Judi's House

By: Kent Gibbons, Multichannel News

An event this past Saturday honoring late Charter cable executive Mary White drew 60 people to Judi's House in Denver, which expects to receive $70,000 in donations in White's honor, organizers said.

At Judi's House, a facility that helps children and their caregivers after a parent dies, a room where kids can let off steam in a safe environment was renamed the "Mary White Energy Room." The facility, founded by NFL quarterback Brian Griese, was a favored charity of White's. She died of breast cancer in March at age 46.

Ron Cooper, the former longtime cable executive and friend of White's, said the ceremony was moving and included a presentation from Campbell White, Mary's daughter, about her recent Outward Bound trip sponsored by Judi's House.

He said donations to the facility in White's name amount to about $70,000. "It illustrates the generosity of the cable community, and I think would have made Mary very proud," he said.

The donations enabled a new program at Judi's House called "Mary's Kids" which will provide the funding necessary to cover all of the costs for counseling and other services for 40 kids over the next year, Cooper said.

Among the donations: $20,000 from Charter and White's friends and colleagues there, according to Charter Business VP Jill Stark, who helped to organize the event on Saturday.

"The children served by Judi's House held a special place in Mary's heart and she would have been very touched by the outpouring of support in her honor," Stark said. "Mary had such a positive influence on many people during her life and now through the Mary White Energy Room and Mary's Kids project, her legacy will continue to help grieving children for years to come.

"The event on Saturday was a beautiful tribute to her wonderful life and all of us at Charter were honored to help make the Judi's House projects a reality. The energy room is just like Mary -- fun, colorful, full of energy and smiles," Stark said.
